Nous, somme. (Us, a sum)

Behind the cover, behind the numbers, behind the sum: the 1+1+1 —the individuals, the them, the she, the he, the "us."

Through this work, with its multiple layers and textures, I gather the imprints of singular beings and weave them into a plural whole.

Much like the growth rings in wood that mark the passage of time, "Nous, somme." (Us, a sum) is a simple expression of the beauty and richness of fleeting experiences—experiences that become etched into and intertwined with the wood. It speaks to the marks left by each one of us upon the trunks, and to the responsibility every being bears as part of a collective whole.

The sum of "us," held within matter and upon this Earth.
